Events & Fundraising
We are always coming up with new and fun events to support the Richmond Symphony. Here are a few highlights:
The March Opening at the Crossroads Art Center
The Crossroads Art Center's goals are to exhibit the work of emerging and established artists from the mid-Atlantic region and to offer instruction and education in the visual arts. At the March opening, RSOL provides wine, beer and other beverages, and the sale of these beverages is a fund raiser for our organization - all net proceeds benefit The Richmond Symphony. This year's event was held on March 17, 2017.
Fun and Fashion Day
On a lovely spring day, RSOL members and friends enjoy bridge and other games, along with lunch and fashions by SteinMart.
This year's event took place at Hermitage Country Club on March 4, 2017.
Pineapple Acre in Ginter Park 2016 Designer House
The Richmond Symphony Orchestra League 2016 Designer House, open from September 12 through October 10, is located at 3223 Hawthorne Avenue in historic Ginter Park. Pineapple Acre, one of Richmond’s finest homes, was designed by noted architect Courtenay S. Welton in 1929.
Since 1984, the Richmond Symphony Orchestra League has sponsored the Designer House every other year to raise money for the Richmond Symphony. For each Designer House event, the RSOL selects a large host home for the event, and then invites local designers to compete for the opportunity to decorate one of the 20 to 30 spaces inside and outside the home. The designers transform their spaces, donating their time and materials.
Designer House month-long event features daily general admission tours, an on-site Café and a Boutique where local artisans sell items like clothing, jewelry, accessories, home goods, stationery and crafts. Special events such as the Preview Gala and Thirsty Thursdays are offered and the Designer House venue is available for rental for private parties. Symphony of Trees
The Symphony of Trees is a raffle of gift collections, run by RSOL in alternate years from the Designer House since 2011. With only 500 tickets per tree, everyone's chances of winning are much better than most raffles. RSOL members gather wonderful gifts. Our generous donors provided gifts such as trips to resorts like the Homestead; beer tastings; jewelry; cases of wine; restaurant dinners at Julep's, Fleming's and Southbound; Forum tickets; wine tastings; sports tickets to Redskins, Nationals and university games; charter fishing trips; golf outings; symphony tickets; paintings; day tours by Let's Get Frank Tours to interesting Virginia locations; and prepaid credit cards. Four designers decorated trees themed to one of the gift collections, and these trees were placed in four stores of our lead sponsor, Kroger. The winners were drawn in early December, just in time for the holiday season.
Champagne & Chocolates
The RSOL members and their guests participate in our fun and festive fundraising social event, Champagne & Chocolates. These are mini-concerts presented four times a year by the RSOL featuring Symphony ensembles and Concerto Competition winners in private home settings for between 30 to 100 guests. This is an opportunity to meet the musicians in a more informal manner. There is a small charge for the event which is a means of financial support for the Symphony.

RSOL Day at the Great Big Greenhouse
For the 7th year in a row, the RSOL was at The Great Big Greenhouse (2051 Huguenot Road, Richmond, VA 23235) on November 19, 2016 for a fundraiser and to promote the Richmond Symphony. This fundraiser is conducted in conjunction with a holiday open house that the Great Big Greenhouse puts on every year. Watch here for details about future events.
The Great Big Greenhouse generously donates a portion of the gross sales for that day to the RSOL.
In addition, the RSOL also holds a bake sale chock full of wonderful goodies, and the musical petting zoo is on site.
